The South Pennine Ring
The South Pennine Ring has been made possible by the recent re-opening
of the Rochdale Canal and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in what must now
be regarded as "The New Canal Age". The Ring, which also includes
The Ashton Canal, Sir John Ramsden's Canal and the Calder & Hebble
Navigation, takes us across
the Pennines from Central Manchester to Huddersfield, follows the Calder
Valley to Sowerby Bridge, and
brings us back across the Pennines to Manchester.
It takes us through the longest canal tunnel
in the world underneath Standedge Moor. This is a fascinating part of the
trip in which your boat is cocooned in rubber and towed through the tunnel by an
electric tug in a convoy. We travel through some of the most spectacularly
scenic landscape in Britain....and through the heart of Britain's former textile
industry.
All these scenes are faithfully captured for
you on this video so that you can experience the delights of the trip - without
having to do the 107 wide locks and 92 narrow locks yourself!
This well researched video is another must
for the serious boating enthusiast. |
