The Thames Above Reading
The Thames is the most famous and best loved of English rivers, for
centuries an inspiration to writer and artist alike.
This video captures the delights of its upper reaches in a journey commencing
at the river's official head of navigation, Lechlade in Gloucestershire, and
continuing down as far as the approach to Reading, in
Berkshire.
A distance of some 70 miles, this winding course is far removed from the busy
Capital waterway so often associated with the Thames. Instead it takes us
through many river-side towns and villages full of character and individual
charm.
Join us on this cruise through English history, and view first hand the manors,
abbeys and battle sites that line its ancient banks.
We also go in search of this celebrated river's source, with surprising
results...
